“I’m really really sad and I don’t know why,” she texts me.
I sit and think a moment, contemplating her days as of late. From my view, her world’s been coming up roses lately. She’s made a new friend, her grades are better than they’ve ever been, she’s been asked to prom by the sweetest young man, and to top it off she recently received a pretty special birthday present.
I’m stumped.
And then it hits me. I text back, “You’ve had some special blessings recently … it’s quite possible satan is trying to trip you up.”
“I guess,” she answers.
And I gently encourage her to “thank God for all He’s blessed her with and tell satan to get the heck away!”
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 {ESV}
Friends, I strongly believe the enemy is on the prowl triple-time! He’s moving after our families, marriages, and children. As this happens, I think it’s crucial to educate and warn our children so they’re aware and can see, feel, and recognize the enemy when he comes knocking … scratch that … stealthing into their thoughts and lives.
I have a hard enough time recognizing the enemy’s work, and I’m an adult. When I finally realize what’s going on, I’m like, “duh {palm-to-forehead}, of course the enemy is at play here!!”
I think sometimes people — even Christians — don’t like to talk too deeply about things of satan, hell, and evil works.
But scripture warns us of the schemes of the devil:
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12 {ESV}
The Lord knew what we’d be up against, so He warned us and gave us tools to fight!
Two of my girls are fighting enemy attacks right now and as their parent, I’m fighting equally hard in equipping them with the truths found in God’s Word.
If you’re looking to help your daughters with a stinkin’ thinkin’ mentality, Joyce Meyer’s books, Battlefield of the Mind for Kids and Battlefield of the Mind for Teens are excellent resources.

Good word! We definitely need to make sure our kids recognize the voice of God and the acts of the enemy!
Tracie, thank you for this post and those book recommendations. I just ordered the kids book and think it will be great to read through with my kids. This is something I still struggle with a lot as an adult, I would love for my kids to be better warriors!!
I always remind my daughter of what is TRUE. We point to God’s word, even when our emotions confuse and mislead us. “What is true and lovely…”
