Introduction to PRIORITY Parenting

I almost didn’t hit publish the last time I was on the calendar to write for the MOD Squad. When we first started talking about this site we wanted it to be a place to encourage and inspire you as mothers of daughters. Yet, I was really struggling in that role.

I decided that it was important to share that it isn’t easy and there are days that are super challenging. However, I have way more good days than hard days and being a mom to my three girls is such a gift.

After my post I was brainstorming how I could do a better job of really focusing on my girls. How can I really make them feel like they are more important to me than the other “stuff” that seems to get put in front of them some days? How can I make them a priority?

I started playing with the word PRIORITY and I came up with a plan. I am excited to take the next eight Tuesdays here at the MOD Squad to share it with you. Each week I will share activities and ideas for you and your daughter. Today I just wanted to give you a little overview of what is coming. . .

P – Prayer Praying with your daughter and for your daughter

R – Recreation Having fun with your daughter.

I – Individual Time Prioritize spending individual time with your daughter.

O - Observation Spend time observing your daughter. What things does she really like? What things does she really dislike? Who are her friends? What are her dreams and fears?

R – Read the Bible Together Make this an activity and a challenge that you take on together.

I – Involvement Put your observations into practice. Do some things that your daughter really loves to do. (even if you don’t) Make it about their passions, not your passions.

T – Table Time Make family meal times a priority and encourage your daughter to help you in the kitchen.

Y – say YES Be a Yes mom. Say yes to sleepovers. Take a group of girls to the movies or ball games. Open your home and your heart to them so that you can teach them about Jesus through your actions.

Stay tuned next week as we look at the letter P and we focus on special activities dealing with prayer.

Small town midwest wife to Chad and mom to 3 very busy girls. I spend my days helping early elementary kids with reading and math. We are often found running between ballet and basketball, but love to cuddle in as a family to watch movies, play games or read good books.

So excited about this! With my daughter soon to turn 10, I am feeling like we’re moving into a new phase of our relationship and that there is such potential to loose touch. It has been heavy on my heart these last few months, however, I believe God has heard those restless wanderings of my soul and provided a way to help focus on my lovely, sweet girl. Thank you & God bless!

Wow, this series looks great. I don’t have a daughter yet (just one son), but I love reading your posts here at MOD squad. I think they’re beneficial for all mommas! Plus, I’m storing the info up just in case… :-)
