Praying For Her Feet

The first thing I remember doing when they handed me {each one of } my brand new baby girl, was unwrapping the blanket and looking at her tiny feet.  Still inked from leaving her first imprint on the world, those toes wiggled their way into my heart. Thousands of kisses and painted toenails later I wonder where those beautiful feet will take her?  Will she walk with Jesus and leave His peace wherever she goes?  Is she going to stay on the path of righteousness?  Who will she run to in times of trouble?

Two verses this week will help us remember to pray for her feet.  Romans 10:15 says, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news” and Ephesians 6:15 challenges us to “shod (dress) our feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace“.  So what is the picture here to etch deeply in our hearts of prayer?  What are beautiful feet?

  • They walk at a steady pace – keep in step with Jesus.
  • They are protected from any temptations of the enemy.
  • They take the good news of Christ wherever they go.
  • They are able to stand strong and be fully prepared for trials.

Jesus understood that when He sent the disciples into the world they would face many difficulties.  He knew their feet would be tempted to turn back.  So His last act of service to them before the cross was to humbly wash their feet.  I’m guessing that while He was there, bowed low He prayed for them.  For three years He had showed them the way to walk.  He demonstrated a life of complete devotion to the Father.  And He poured the Word of God into their hearts so that when they were on their own, they would choose the narrow path of obedience.  His deep relationship with these men created followers who turned the world upside down with the Gospel of peace.

Mom, will you do the same for your daughter?  Will you come before your Father in heaven and wash her precious feet with your prayers?  Will you endeavor to show her by your own life the way to walk with Jesus?

We sang this song at church on Sunday.  It is a great reminder as we pray for her feet, that He is the one leading each step she takes.

Oh God, You are my God
And I will ever praise You
Oh God, You are my God
And I will ever praise You
I will seek You in the morning
And I will learn to walk in Your ways
And step by step You’ll lead me
And I will follow You all of my days

Amen! Your posts about raising Godly daughters has resonated with me SO MUCH. There was a night last week that as I lay with my daughter in bed, I felt an urge to pray for her, over her. And I did. It moved me so much that I even wrote a blog post about it!

Thank you so much for your ministry! You are being used – mightily – and I just wanted to let you know that I am greatly encouraged by you.

If you should ever find the time to drop by and read the blog post I mentioned above, you can find it here: http://muminflipflops.com/prayer/

Cyrene – your words are just so heartfelt and encouraging to me! I am so glad you have been blessed by these prayer posts! It has been 100% the Lord’s idea and Words for you!

Your little one is so precious and your prayers will go before her and light the way she is to walk! You are being that Godly example of a woman of faith that she can and will imitate daily! What a legacy your building for her!

Thanks for being part of the MODsquad! You are the reason we are here!

    Blessings!

Oh my, I hope this isn’t too long for a comment, but this entire post speaks to me of my oldest daughter. When she was younger (1st-4th grade) she had an awful time with socks and shoes being uncomfortable. My mother-in-law talked about praying through the armor of God for her, especially the part of fitting her feet with the Gospel of peace. One of the songs we would sing together when she was having a difficult time with shoes, or anxiety, was the Rich Mullins song. And God has taken this anxious girl and is growing her into an amazing young lady who is not afraid to talk about Him, invite her friends to youth group, and is willing to share prayer requests when she feels the need.

I love these times when God shows us clearly how amazing He is. . .

As I read back over these areas in preparation of printing each one, I wanted to encourage you, that although I don’t see many comments, I know your words are sinking deep into the hearts of moms. This site is such a blessing to so many, and your hard work and obedience will affect many generations to come.
