We have a special guest on the MOD Squad today. Cherie Zack from A Praying Wives Club is sharing her journey as a Mother of a special needs daughter.
The Enemy Has Been Defeated!
“And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15
How many times have you fought the good fight only to feel defeated? Eve must have felt defeated that day in the Garden when the realization came that she went against God and chose to act in what the enemy (Satan) was coaxing her to do. But, in the midst of Eve’s sin God reveals a promise to her: that her offspring would defeat her enemy.
Our daughter, Samantha, has had seizures from the time she was two due to the cerebral palsy that occurred when she was born. Although she is on medication for them, the seizures still come. The Gospel of Mark tells us that if we believe, whatsoever we ask for, we will receive. Three years ago God spoke to me about seeking Him for her healing from the seizures and the cerebral palsy and that, in itself, is a post for another time.
The same week God impressed this on a me, a mother of one of Sam’s school friends opened up about her own trials with her son John. He has CP as well and she was experiencing the same things. Without missing a beat she said, “Go to the grocery store and buy some olive oil. Then, tonight before Sam goes to bed anoint her forehead, hands and feet and pray over your baby for her deliverance”. John’s mom is sweet older black lady that lives the gospel to the fullest. I didn’t even question what she said. I went to Food Lion, grabbed some olive oil and Sam and I began this journey.
We are in our fourth year of doing this. Although there are seizure- free days, Samantha still has seizures.
This prompted me to ask God this question: “Why, if I’m doing what you have shown me to do, are the seizures still coming?” Nineteen years is a long time to be dealing with these on an almost daily basis. Three weeks ago God gave me His answer. He told me to STAND!! I thought to myself, “Huh?” Then I wondered what does “Stand” look like? God reminded me of the Israelites and took me to Exodus 14:13, which says,
“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.”
Stand! God is telling me to stand firm in what he has told me. So standing for me is resisting the enemy in each of the seizures… The last three weeks I have been doing just this. When the seizure comes I won’t receive it. I won’t even let it change my mood or joy. Instead, I will speak God’s promises over Sam. I will remind the enemy who he is. I will speak out every scripture as the Holy Spirit brings them to my remembrance! I am in a battle for my daughter’s healing and this morning was no different.
I had just gotten Sam out of the tub and I felt in my spirit for the first time that a seizure was coming. It hadn’t even shown its normal signs. I chose then to stand. I began to fight before it reared its ugly head. Satan’s design hurt Sam and caused me to feel defeated. Moms, I stood! I stood as tall and strong as I have ever stood before. I have the tools I need and I knew with God, Sam and I would win.
I began to tell Satan that he is a liar!! I reminded him that God gave Eve a promise. Her offspring would strike his head and Sam will be delivered! The seizure came and I continued to speak out God’s promises for her! By His stripes we are healed. I stood firm in my faith; no matter what the seizure looked like and in less than three minutes the seizure was gone. It didn’t even have a chance to take a foothold this time. We have a victory! I was so excited that I began to sing to God and Sam clapped her hands and raised them to the sky. This is how she praises Him. Remember this song?
“The enemy has been defeated, death couldn’t hold You down, We’re gonna raise our voice in victory, we’re gonna make our praises loud! Talk about a battle cry! (From Hillsong, “Shout Unto God”)
One of our sons walked by Sam’s room and said, “Mom, Satan is a liar and you defeated him this morning.” I didn’t know at the time that he was listening to us.
One day soon, Sam and I will have full victory and she will be seizure-free for life. What are you going through that you feel defeated in? Tell Satan that he is a liar and that your victory is at hand. God is so good and so able! Jesus defeated Satan on the cross and by his stripes we are healed! Like ours, your victory may tarry but it will come. We are promised this by way of the cross. One day soon I will be blogging the day of Sam’s full healing!! I would love to hear about yours as well.
I’ve included a picture of our Sam. Isn’t she beautiful?

Thank you, Jesus, for your continued faithfulness to my family and me! I pray that Sam’s and my testimony will encourage and strengthen other moms who are trusting you in their own situation. Thank you for the cross. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

Cherie your story was beautiful and you are such an inspiration to me and a wonderful friend! I know God is going to heal Sam without a doubt. She is a beautiful young woman and she loves the Lord
I thank you for your prayers for my marriage. I have been praying fervently for about 11 months now and I have seen God’s hand in my marriage, in me, my husband, and I’m starting to notice little by little changes in my children. I have never seen God so at work in my family the way He has over the past few months. I give Him all the praise and honor! I know there are areas I still need changed and I trust God to make those transformations in me…and He will! They are strongholds that I just have to keep praying until they are broken. Thank you for being my friend since the 8th grade at Stewart Street Christian School… I love you!
Thank you Stacey,
What an encourager you are. Thank you for standing with us. We have witnessed God move in Sam’s seizures when many stand together with us. There is power in the Christian Body when we come together selflessly for the purpose of others. I look forward to witnessing what God is going to do now….
Blessings to you and your family,
Cherie

Such a wonderful post that has encouraged me especially in regards to my marriage as well as my relationship with my daughter. In the past Iv’e fallen prey to satan in how I react to trials. I too need to STAND! Be more aware of satan’s schemes & the invisible war that is happening. Thank You.
